At St Therese’s Netball Club (STNC), the safety and wellbeing of all children in our community is our top priority. We are committed to providing a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment where young players can thrive. Our Child Safety Policy outlines our dedication to safeguarding children, preventing harm, and ensuring that every child feels valued and protected.

STNC Child Safety Policy

Information for Players, Coaches and Supporters (Reviewed Jan 2025)

1. Purpose St Therese’s Netball Club (STNC) is committed to ensuring a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for all children and young people participating in our club. This policy outlines our commitment to child safety and the measures we take to protect children from harm.

2. Commitment to Child Safety STNC:

  • Has zero tolerance for child abuse and discrimination.

  • Actively works to create a child-safe and child-friendly environment.

  • Supports and respects all children, as well as their families and volunteers.

  • Is committed to the cultural safety of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, children from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, and children with disabilities.

3. Code of Conduct All coaches, team managers, volunteers, and committee members must:

  • Treat children and young people with respect at all times.

  • Listen to children and take their concerns seriously.

  • Adhere to the Netball Victoria Child Safety Code of Conduct.

  • Not engage in any form of abuse, neglect, or inappropriate behavior towards children.

4. Child Protection and Reporting STNC is committed to ensuring that any concerns about child safety are addressed promptly.

  • Any suspicion of child abuse or harm must be reported to the STNC Child Safety Officer or relevant authorities (e.g., Child Protection Services, Victoria Police).

  • Confidentiality and privacy will be maintained in all reporting and investigation processes.

  • The club will support any child, parent, or volunteer who reports concerns.

5. Recruitment and Screening To ensure child safety, STNC:

  • Requires all coaches, team managers, and volunteers to hold a valid Working with Children Check (WWCC).

  • Conducts thorough reference checks for individuals working with children.

  • Provides child safety training to coaches and volunteers.

6. Safe Environments and Participation

  • All training sessions, games, and club activities will be supervised by appropriate adults.

  • Players will be encouraged to speak up if they feel unsafe or uncomfortable.

  • A minimum of two adults will be present at all club activities involving children.

  • Social media and electronic communication will be used appropriately and monitored for child safety.

7. Review and Continuous Improvement This policy will be reviewed annually, or as required, to ensure its effectiveness and compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
